Mission Outline
Upon their return to Bangkok, the Bryans plan to continue the work they began with the Somprasong 4 church. The church has requested Neale to occupy the position of English Evangelist. The Bryans will be busy with various duties, which include, but are by no means limited to:
- Thai Language Studies
- Serving as an English Minister for the church
- Serving as an English Teacher to the community
- Establishing an English School for children
- Working with the Bangkok Servant Leadership Institute
- Starting an Online English/Bible Correspondence
Thai Language Studies - Even though the Bryans understand enough Thai language to live in Bangkok, there is a need to spend time in an intensive study of the language to become fluent. The majority of their first year in Thailand will be deicated to full time study of the Thai language. This will make them more effective in their service to the church and community by allowing them to communicate openly and freely with the Thai people.
English Minister - As a minister to the Somprasong 4 Church of Christ, Neale will prepare and deliver at least 2-4 sermons per month. He will teach a weekly Sunday morning Bible class for English speaking members and visitors, as well as conduct regular Bible studies during the week. He will minister to the needs of the church locally, as well as to the needs of the many foreign visitors who come to the church for help, information, and Bible study. He will also maintain websites: an English translation of the Somprasong 4 church’s site and a site providing relevant information and updates on the work the Bryans are doing in Thailand.
English Teacher - The Bryans will continue the English program they started to develop in 2006. The elders at Somprasong 4 have seen the immediate benefits of this program, as it draws a large amount of interest to the church. They have the desire to expand this program so that it can reach out even further.
English School for Children - An English school for children would serve as another opportunity for the church to open her doors to the community. Dalissa’s degree in Early Childhood Education qualifies her to teach and administer such a program.
Bangkok Servant Leadership Institute -
The Watcharapohn Church of Christ in Bangkok, as part of their “Thailand for the Savior” program, has established a Bible school for young Thai Christians. They are located closed to a large university and currently have about 25 students enrolled in their two-year curriculum. Five days per week they attend Bible classes in the morning and then classes at the university in the afternoon. Their goal is to teach and train future church leaders: Thai nationals who will be willing and equipped to plant churches and serve their home congregations when they graduate and leave Bangkok for home.
Neale has been invited by the Watcharapohn church to work with them with on this and other aspects of the “Thailand for the Savior” program. Duties could include teaching at the Bangkok Servant Leadership Institute, assisting in the production of a weekly radio program, visiting rural congregations, and possible future church planting efforts.
Online English/Bible Correspondence -
In establishing this program, the goal would be to offer our brethren in the States the opportunity to make a huge difference in Thailand without even leaving their own home. With advances in technology, the speed of email and online text chat programs, and even free, easy-to-use voice and video chat programs, Christians in America can do exactly what the Bryans are doing in Thailand, teaching God’s word to lost souls.
The Thai people appreciate every opportunity to converse with and learn from native English speakers. The need for teachers is great. The Bryans will work in Bangkok to make the necessary connections to facilitate this program by acquiring students, contacting churches, providing online access to students, developing lesson materials, and maintaining web-space and online tools.
