Steady, As She Goes

From the time I last posted, we seem to be busier than ever. We’re slowly, but steadily getting into a regular routine, as each new week seems a cookie cutter replica of the previous one. We’ve had 3 excellent Saturdays teaching English so far, and we’re looking forward to another great Saturday ahead. I believe the students are really getting into learning more about what we are studying, both from an English standpoint and a Spiritual one.

Our Level 1 students are almost done with their first unit, the Level 2 students, who are studying English through an overview of the Bible, are already up to Moses, and the Level 3 students are working on discovering the meaning behind a fourth parable of Jesus. We’re getting a lot of help from the Thai Christians in our classes as well. In addition to learning along with our students, they help explain the stories we read, and are extremely helpful in class discussions. We’re planning of having some sort of extra-curricular get together, maybe around Halloween (which is not celebrated in Thailand), or possibly sooner.

We’ve also got two weeks of Thai Language school behind us, and are working our way through a third. It is taking all that we have to retain all of the new things we are learning to say. In just these last 2 weeks, we’ve re-learned almost everything it took us 6 months to learn last time we were here, and then some. We really like our teacher, Khun Gahsamah, but it sometimes it takes a long time to really grasp what we’re learning. She’s really patient, especially with me, and we always seem to end up learning exactly what she set out to teach us. Just don’t expect my to be able to ask the question, “How many times have you ever flown on an airplane” without thinking about it for at least a minute. At least, not right now.
