Sports Day at Soi 4

I’ve got a video to share with you all. This weekend we were visited by a group of young people from Singapore. We coordinated this year’s Sports Day at Somprasong 4 to coincide with their trip. It’s call “Sports Day,” but it’s really a “Get Really Messy Game Day.” I’ll try [...]

A Remarkably Peculiar Day

*Thanks to my copy editor/mom for helping correct my progressively decaying English grammar. In my defense, I did write this post around midnight the same day this all happened. Here it is in updated form:
Today has been a rather exceptionally bizarre (insert any other synonym for “strange” you can think of) day. As I start [...]

A Sunday Evening Observation

This last Sunday evening we attended a joint worship service of the five the congregations of the Lord’s church here in Bangkok. They have been, as I found out, been joining together to worship once every 3 months for about a year now, a different church hosting the others each time. This [...]

A trip to Dusit Zoo

It was almost a month ago that we went to the zoo. We had a Saturday free, which is really rare, and we had never been to Bangkok’s Dusit Zoo. It’s actually a pretty good zoo. Anyway, I’m writing this just to introduce the video I finally got around to making. [...]

Some good, clean, scary fun

I just want to throw a quick post in here to let ya’ll out there know that our Halloween party, though in November, was a lot of fun. I’ve got a new photo album up which I hope you will enjoy.

Mountain Trip to Khao Kho

On October 23rd, Thailand celebrated Piyamaharaj Day. The weekend before the 23rd, one of the deacons at Soi 4, who works for the Thai telephone company TOT, invited us to spend a couple of days with his family at the campground his company owns on top of Khao Kho. This mountain is located [...]

One in the Bag

Last Friday, we completed our first month of language school.  So, that’s one down and at least 5 more to go.  I really think that we are getting the hang of this language, and it seems (right now, at least) to be getting easier to learn the more we do it.  These first two modules [...]

Steady, As She Goes

From the time I last posted, we seem to be busier than ever. We’re slowly, but steadily getting into a regular routine, as each new week seems a cookie cutter replica of the previous one. We’ve had 3 excellent Saturdays teaching English so far, and we’re looking forward to another great Saturday ahead. [...]

Learning Begins

Today, we started our formal Thai language classes at Buditwit Language School. We’ll be going to class 5 days per week, from 1 pm to 4 pm, for the next 6-8 months. And just after one day, my brain already hurts.

Teaching Begins

This past Saturday ushered in the beginning of our Saturday English classes. The previous Saturday, we called in as many students as could come, and had an informal orientation to see who was interested in studying with us. We had a really good turnout. We are offering 3 lessons each Saturday on [...]
